Oliver,

Have used American Airline but their policy is the same for most IATA
airlines.

If its lead acid rechargable batteries, then its NOT allowed in the cabin
but can go in the forward hold providing there are no animals in the same hold.

Its normally placed in the Front hold which is normally pressurised at 9.5
lbs PSI. against normal air pressure of 14.5 PSI. This means that it could
leak! They will not put batteries with live stock which is the front hold.
They should never put rechargable batteries in the rear hold due to not being
pressurised. Depends which aircraft they use.

Most batteries go on a freighter which is pressurised in the upper and lower
front decks.

Having said that, things have changed drastically over the last few years
since the NYC crisis. So its a phone call to American Airlines and get the
name of the person you spoke to as many airline staff are not always up to date
with the latest rules and regs.

I would borrow a battery when you get there if you can and will save you a
lot of grief!

Have a good flight and don't forget your mini DV for your Konvas diary
footage.

Best of luck Rita
