"I might just return it to the seller for a refund, since she did not notice
the problems or include in her
description."
Morgan,
I don't think this ebay seller has actually seen the lens. I believe she has
taken the description and photos from the original seller. Grissley gets
commission for selling other peoples equipment.
In my opinion I think you have paid too much. It was a 'buy it now' auction
and Grissley probably has put on a large commission for herself. It would be
unethical to ask for your money back, its Ebay after all. You take a huge
risk when buying from them. The risk percentage that the item will not match the
description is high and never will be in your favour. The excitement of
bidding sometimes overtakes you and common sense seems to go out of the window.
The item you won is as described, don't you think?
The lens was made in 1990 and so the coatings should be good, it all depends
on how the lens was used and stored. It certainly is a very nice lens and I
would love to own it but at half the price! If that lens was a Zeiss or
Cooke then it would be treble of what you paid for it.
It all depends on what the lens is worth to you. If you rent one identical
to yours, how much would it cost you over a 10 year period. A good lens is like
gold dust to find. Its all relative in the end. You never make money on
lenses as they have to earn their keep which means constant maintenance and fat
bills.
I would put the lens on test and post the results on the forum. You may be
pleasantly surprised.
If you are renting a RED then you should rent the lenses too, surely your
production is worth it.
