Xax,
What is coming with the second hand Red and what are you buying extra?
Also, Red is shipping upon delivery now, so are you getting enough of a
discount from the secondhand one? Also, have you worked out warranty
transfers?
See my notes below - (I hope the blue font comes through):
Hey Lael, if you've got a few minutes time, do you mind elaborating on
the accessoires?
I am in the process of buying a second hand RED and seeing what I might
need or might get additionally and what I can sell immediately.
Am going to use it with older Lomo's as well, I hope they are going to
smoothe the harsh HD look a bit...
I've seen nothing I'd call harsh HD with this camera so far.
this is the current list of accessoires I'm getting:
Base production pack - You can buy mine now unused for $1050, I went
with 15mm Arri studio standard config.
Universal mount 3x
Side handle 2x
Arri Dovetail plate 19mm or 15mm?
ET breakout box - I'd wait on this maybe. I haven't needed it yet
LCD cable 1x
Red LCD
EVF cable - I'm looking into building one in addition. Red's cable has
a right angle that sticks right into my FF or matte box
EVF
Red charger - Buy an IDX 4x simultaneous charger instead, Red's is only
one batt at a time
Red brick batt's 4x - These will work with an IDX charger and they WILL
give you batt remaining in the VF where IDX batts will not
Power supply
Battery plate belt clip 1x - A must have
Red drive raid 2x (do you mean the Red drive, not the Red solid state
raid? Wish I could afford it, but the CFs are good enough for me.
Get a power isolated FW800 cable for dit station download. Most guys
are getting their FW800 connection fried on their Red drives. Some are
also powering down before connecting / disconnecting. I just got my
Harddrive, but have a problem somewhere and will send the camera in for
service when I have a break.
Custom built drive mount - I'd get ET's V mount and Hdrive Shock mount
CF module
CF card 8gb 4x
BattQuick plate
Top mount
Red handle mount
Red handle left
Top handle ext
Arri base 19mm
15 mm adapter
Red rod steel 12" 2x - Go with ET's lightweight ones
Red rod steel 24" 2x - 24" stay with these steel ones to support a big
zoom
Red rod carbon 4x - No carbon, go with ET's lightweight
Viewfactor Origo remote start/stop w. 30' cable Nuts and bolts in
abundance. - Awesome
2 Peli cases for the package
Focus hook
If you are considering renting it to others and looking (and feeling /
operating) topnotch pro, then buy ET's handheld shoulder mount ($1970)
and ET's EVF mount ($1200 I think).
ET's dovetail plate for the Oconnor 2060 or 1030 is an awesome
accessory. Give you an extra level of well, "leveling" your rig.
I have a 1030 - the most awesome tripod and head I have ever had, but
the camera pushes its limits. Wish I had a 2060.
Sounds like you have some good financing. Don't borrow too much. These
cameras are getting plentiful and the awe is wearing off in rentals.
All the best,
lael
