Adam,

I lost the email, but think it was you that started this thread for
comments on the wood chip VO. I thought the guys voice had a very good
sound (I'm talking his voice, I'm not capable to critique the audio
recording). He reminded me of a guy I use here in Atlanta named Tony
Messano ( www.tonymessano.com ). Tony does the voice of Delta so I
hear him in Airports all over the place and find myself looking around
for him.

Rita, you are aboslutely right about the trend towards female voices. I
have one local lady that I use whenever I can. She is Liz Helgesen at
http://www.passionfruitproductions.com/

Liz is amazing and I have heard her voice constantly over the years with
TMoble, AT&T, and on and on. Not only does she have a great voice that
is capable of MANY different feels, she is also EXTREMELY intelligent
and it shows in her work. For instance, I used her recently in a 22
minute training video. The script was very detailed with a lot of
technical jargon that only the intended audience would know. Lots of
long sentences too. She nailed it and you would have thought she
understood every word. The reason is because she IS very intelligent.
The longer story is that I tried 2 other women (both professional VO
artists) first that were gonna be cheaper for me. They had great
voices, but you could tell they were just spitting out what seemed
drivel to them. Liz was incredible and worth the $650 hr.

Another thing about her - she can produce about any feel you want...for
instance, sweet mommy, sexy, tired, bright, shiny, and on and on. Years
ago I met her on a shoot and she was entertaining the grips by giving
them samples of any feel they could throw out. I saw donuts fall out of
mouths.

Finally, I have produced a lot of work that needed VO and re-dubbing and
use professionals as much as I can. In the long run it saves me money
over cheap actors. For instance, with Liz I usually only need one
pickup per page. On cheap actors, the audio editing along cost me well
more than a professional would have to begin with (line pickups, pages
rustling, the speaker not staying consistent in their energy, distance
from the mic, etc. ).

Finally, T2, I can't believe Peter is 83. His voice is a miracle.
