Good question.

Stainless steel is always an option, for sure, but for an 18" set of 
15mm aluminum rods, we're talking roughly one pound (almost half a 
kilogram). With an 18" set of 15mm stainless steel rods, it's almost 3 
pounds (roughly 1.36 kilograms).

Those 2 extra pounds may not seem like much at first, but every pound 
starts to add up once you lug a heavy camera around for a few hours...

Of course, there's always titanium, but it's really expensive...
