Very interesting to read about the 1/2 stop overexposure practice being somewhat common. I'll give this a try next time.
Rick, HW, you exactly described my poor 5x7 negatives. Having traveled for hours by car and then backpacking my gear off-road to get the images, I was too stunned to do much else but stare at the clear 5x7 pieces of plastic in my hand. I had to reminded myself that a Buddhist might congratulate me on such an occasion. Thankfully the photos weren't for a job, and the experience served to remind me that the process of getting the shots is where I find the greatest rewards. It's nice to have pretty pictures to look at, but it doesn't compare to actually having been there.
