As my film ”Newsmakers” (http://www.tribecafilm.com/filmguide/Newsmakers.html?c=y&3301=170191&curView=browseDetail&sortBy=title) premieres on the 24th at the Tribeca film festival in New York (I’m now on my way there) I thought I’d say a few words about it from a technical Konvas group perspective:
It was – of course! – shot on 35mm 2-perf, using an Arri BL IV, a Kinor 235R (PL), 2 Konvases, a Mitchell Mk II, and a crash box 4-perf Konvas and a 4-perf Temp camera for explosion high speed stuff et c. Almost all lenses were (modified) LOMOs, we used a lot of zooms in order to be able to quickly change focal length from take to take in the action sequences (shot using minimum 3 cameras per setup, sometimes up to 5 or 6). LOMO / Ekran zooms plus an Angenieux 25-250mm.
Kodak Vision 2 - 100T and 200T and a few scenes using Vision 3 - 500T.
Probably the first major Russian film in a long time that was shot using Russian lenses (not counting Elite), and certainly the first Russian 2-perf feature AFAIK.
Some pickup scenes done more than 4 months after the principal shoot were done on an Arri 35BL Evolution and Zeiss T2.1 lenses in Super 35, and it is not possible to discern any difference in image quality between 2-perf + (modified) LOMO and Super 35 4-perf + Zeiss. Even the 2K colourist was surprised.
A subtitled theatrical trailer for it can be found here: http://vimeo.com/3864258
One of our camera techs took a lot of still photos during the shoot and our DoP Chris Maris put those pics together into a little behinds the scenes film from the point of view of the camera dept…: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ngPkcoQJzk&feature=channel
Major theatrical release (400+ prints) all over Russia and the former Soviet Union on the 7th of May.
