I use a cut down plastic drinking straw and wrap 5 amp fuse wire inside and  
outside at the ends. There are different size drinking straws ofcourse but the 
 tiny ones are usually for children. Otherwise, a piece of wood dowel the 
same  size will do the job. I expect that you have already tried these. RAF has a 
 batch of them some time ago.
