I've built a 10AH 18/12V d-pack-type battery: http://www.smallpony.ca/battery.jpg
and I also have a 7AH 15.6V pack that I don't use anymore: http://www.smallpony.ca/forsale/battery.jpg
It's made up of 13 NiCD F-cells (these sell for about $15 apiece) .
The charger and 15.6v battery can be yours for $100.. iron not
included. the battery hasn't seen much use. Actually, I'm probably
going to sell off the remainder of my 35H gear shortly.
Replacing the power connector with an XLR one is pretty simple.. I
think there's a howto floating around:

I also replaced the tiny russian fuse socket with a more standard 1/4"
one on my camera.
The Kinor 35 should run on anything between about 14 and 21V.
Cheers,
Sean
