Incomplete Oxberry, Photo-Sonics, ACME, Mitchell and Bell & Howell
cameras are often found on ePray.
Most often, the movement is missing.
It's simply a case of the individual parts being worth more than the
sum.
A 24 x 36 Oxberry movement alone is worth many times the value of the
complete camera. It is the rarest of the Oxberry movements (same
comment for Mitchell movements).
Oxberry movements work only in Oxberry mechanisms.
Mitchell movements work only in Mitchell mechanisms, and then only in
the designated model (NC and BNC in those models; STD in that model;
High-Speed in that model, etcetera).
ACME, Bell & Howell and Photo-Sonics movements are quite often
interchangeable (as Photo-Sonics made most of them, anyway).
But, Oxberry movements, which are outwardly identical with the
others, are not interchangeable with them, as the Oxberry was
designed at the outset for multiple gauges, and the others were not.
In order for a camera to operate a 24 x 36 movement (8-perf) it must
have an 8-perf cam, and those were not generally made.
One variant of the Oxberry camera head had a three-cam setup, and
could operate 16mm and 4- and 8-perf 35mm, simply by interchanging
the movement and certain other components.
The shaft on which the cam is made (it is super-precision ground into
the shaft) is the very same shaft which drives the shutter.
The 16mm movement engages only the 16mm operating cam.
The 4-perf 35mm movement engages only the 4-perf 35mm operating cam.
The 8-perf 35mm movement engages only the 8-perf 35mm operating cam.
