[BTW: Off topic, but I saw a documentary the other day that said the
Technicolor process was what allowed Dorothy in the "Wizard of Oz" to have
Red shoes, when they actually shot silver shoes in real life (the
Technicolor process turned them red). Can anyone confirm or deny this? I
thought they were silver in the book, but that they used red shoes when
shooting the film.]

Frey,

It's funny you mention this, because just this morning I was reading about
the same thing. It is true, that The Wizard of Oz was shot in Technicolor,
but it is not true they shot silver shoes. In the original Novel, the
author wrote that Dorothy wore silver shoes. Because they were shooting in
color, the filmmakers decided to change the color of shoes to Ruby Red; I
assume for visual appeal. On a side note: It seems that the color section
was actually shot in color, and the building and Dorothy's dress were all
colored Sepia. Apparently, MGM decided the Black&White to Color dissolved
would be to expensive. The Wizard of Oz was shot in 3-strip. The Sergei
Paradjadov film I was watching this morning, looked very similar to the
3-strip Technicolor.

Hope that helps!
