That's quite strange, but then again, I'm not a Guild member.
I started out using Final Draft and wrote several screenplays and such
with it. But then someone turned me onto the Mozilla-based Celtx several
years ago. At first, I'll admit, it had its shortcomings due to limited
features - but that was when it was in its early beta stages.
It took quite a long time (a few years) to come out of beta. In this
case, beta meant stable; but it did not have a lot of working features.
And that's probably what the WGA has based their opinions on
(unfortunately).
Since Celtx's later beta stages (probably around version 0.97 and up),
I'd have to say they've added a lot to it and it's become quite a
powerful screen writing tool.
With the newer versions of Celtx, I can't see how it could possibly rank
behind an MS Word template. Since I don't own MS Word, does it allow you
to do things like online project collaboration and/or storage? (Celtx
allows this thru a paid service called Celtx Studios - but it is rather
inexpensive).
I've written several scripts and other things using Celtx and it's
always been good to me - stable work platform and easy to use. At one
point I had a few issues with my Mac and formatting while printing - but
I've had a LOT of issues with Macs and printing, so that probably wasn't
Celtx's fault (almost every time I use Text and print something via my
Mac with a font size of 12, it will print with such small letters that
you can barely read it - could be my printer, could be my Mac, not sure).
Anyway, like I said, I can't argue with it - it's been good to me. And I
can't see why the WGA would think so lowly of it, unless they are still
dwelling on old beta versions...
