Hi Rita,
Thanks for your comments. Yes, on one of the days I wore a wet-suit under the dress suit. Actually, it was on the sunny day when there was the least need. The short took four days to make, but the shooting days were seperated by weeks. By the time we were finished it was quite cold, and I'd managed to lose the wet-suit. So I froze a bit, but didn't mind at all at the time. We put a ladder in the square pit and the actor simply climbed out, trying to make it look as if he wasn't climbing a ladder. His role was meant to be played by four or five little boys, but I ultimately had difficulties getting child actors, and could not have wrangled that many kids with so small a crew. So it turned into a more literal (and, for me, a less satisfying) representation of Death.
I shot REEDS before I owned a Konvas. In fact, it was seeing REEDS screened at the Palm Springs Film Fest on a large screened that convinced me I wanted to shoot with a film camera, and as long as I was going to do that, why not make it 35mm. REEDS was shot on a DVX100 - A very nice little camera, but it's best not to watch the footage on a small screen - it doesn't hold up well when projected large. After seeing it at the festival, I puzzled between getting one of two cameras - the Arri 2C or the Konvas 2M. The Konvas won and since I had very little experience with motion picture cameras, I rushed to find people who did. Hence my involvement with the old Konvas site, and the newish Konvas.org.
The "For Mike" footage was shot with my Konvas and is a project that I'm doing in memory of my brother Mike, who passed away a couple of years ago. Caring for him during his illness was another reason I decided to shoot on 35mm, but that's a long story, and perhaps better to tell at another time. I feel very connected to him when I visit the particular spot seen in the footage and photos.
Thanks for liking my photos. I'm mostly a stage actor, and have done photo jobs between gigs since I started going on the road with shows. Now that I have kids, I'm no longer going on the road, but between shows in NYC, I take photos - for fun, and to supplement my income. I have an exciting new personal project I'm getting ready to do with my Konvas and can't wait to start.
Hope you have a great day!

Dan,

I have just looked at your short film "Reeds". Did you wear a wet suit for that submerged scene and I noticed that there were very little ripples so you were there some time before you had the camera running. This was a very tense little film and it certain held my attention. Very cleverly done and obviously a lot of thought and planning went into it. Did the nasty man rise up from the hole or was he 'helped' with a plank of wood?
I especially like the little girls attempt at bayling out the water but being half submerged with water must have had its technical problems. I assume this was shot with the Konvas and Lomos.

"For Mike version 2" film was also interesting but I fell in love with the music and the syncing of the rising of the sun had a magical appeal for me.

Your stills were excellent.

Rita
