No, I think that, like any camera shot, if it is annoying or if you
"notice" the camera shot, then you have detracted from the story. I
think used properly, you wouldn't realize it in a movie unless you were
looking for it. The video example does demonstrate its ability, but was
intended only for that. On the other hand, bury that shot in a movie
where the actor has come out fully equipped for battle and you're
panning all around him to see how he's geared up - you'd probably never
think about how they shot it. I see lots of uses for it.

Yes, I am interested, size does matter!
I am not sure what this rig does that the steadicam rig does'nt do,
except that it rolls over.
The main stem seems to be made of carbon fibre so there's a bit of
weight saving there but do you need to have such a 'long take' when it
can be broken up into segments. Obviously, one long take saves you
re-setting but how often are you going to do this. The man does stop
during the take anyway and the camera goes around him but this would'nt
really happen in a movie would it. I can see it being used in fast
action sequencies but if it kept revolving then the audience would
certainly get motion sickness if it was used all the time. I am sure it
can be used in a creative way and this little show case film certainly
demonstrated its maximum potential albeit a limited one. A nice extra
tool that probably would appeal to the "video heads" who are eager to
seek out new ways to annoy an audience rather than spend a little extra
on the script writer to maximise the films potential.
I surpose many people are now thinking of making one out of 'bamboo' and
bits of string and will wonder why their beloved camera fell down eight
flights of stairs onto someones head. A lot of thought has gone into
this contraption and that's where the money had been invested, they will
want to see a return on their capital and so assume will be charging an
arm and leg for it. Can the cost be justified on one film!
I think it would be handy for someone like T2 who only has two minutes
to impress his audience and so could be an invaluable tool to have if
the initial expense can be justified. But sooner or later everybody will
be using one and the uniqueness will be short lived.
I must say he's a nice looking boy. I want one!
