Hey, gang!
One group that is constantly grinding glass are amateur telescope makers.
One of my classmates in school made a very functional 8" diameter Newtonian
reflecting telescope from very first principles. The principal mirror was
completely hand-ground using a blank and tool set and graduated abrasives he
got from Edmund Scientific Co (then of Barrington, New Jersey). I think
they now exist as Edscorp, or something similar - a few moments with Google
should point you in the right direction.
I suspect if you got in touch with your local Planetarium, they could put
you in touch with folks who have huge array of glass-grinding abrasives, if
they don't have 'em themselves.
Plan B (always good to have a Plan B!) would be to contact your local glass
folk who to etched pictures on glass, It's not uncommon, and there are at
least 8 companies in my own city that do it. And they've got the etchant
(probably some stripe of hydrofluoric acid, and you do NOT, as Mustafa very
correctly warned, want to be messing with that stuff!). The commercial
glass guys have the chemicals, equipment, and know-how. So hand the etching
over to them and avoid a lot of trouble and messing around.
Hope this gives you another couple of avenues to explore.
(And there was damn SNOW at noon today! It melted quickly, but it's the
principle of the thing!)
Best to all,

Oliver,
This was discussed about 6 months ago. It is on the Konvas archives
somewhere?
I think Brad made successful attempts at making a GG. There is a Dutch
company that makes GG 's of various sizes but cannot remember who they are.
This forum even listed the suppliers who make the powder but I cannot find
the CD disc I copied it to.
Not much help am I. I would like this info again as I would like to have a
go myself.
You submitted a video once of your GG in action with your DOF adapter.
