As with most Howard/Goldsman collaborations, the film is an  
"interpretation", and AFAIAC, Howard and Goldsman are not very good  
at "interpreting" the works of others.

Howard's semi-documentaries have been good ("Apollo 13", for example).

His adaptations ("A Beautiful Mind" and the two Dan Brown books) have  
been failures, not withstanding ABM winning numerous AAs.
