[Konvas] Lomos in the dark

Adam , you have a very good point there. Focus with a full
frame sensor is indeed a nightmare and stopping the lens down would just negate
having the bigger sensor for light sensitivity reasons in the first place. The only
time the 5D could be an advantage is when you would need extra shallow DOF
since you could still get that at T4 with the 5D without sacrificing sharpness as
you would have to when opening the lens to a T2 on a 7D. But I’m not into the
ultra super shallow DOF trend of lately. I only use it when I need it for a
given shot. I find T4 to be the perfect T-stop. Sharp and contrasty while still
yielding shallow enough DOF. At T4 the Lomos are really at their sweet spot too.
Yes, I plan on posting footage soon. The Lomos look really beautiful
on the 7D and sharp too. Specially the 75mm. It’s extremely sharp. I have never
found the need to use softening filters with any digital cameras. Just never
found them sharp enough. But with the 7D with the 75mm for close ups I find
myself wanting to throw a BPM in to knock the sharpness a notch or so.

Glad your shots are coming out right. Would love to see a few frame grabs.
I'd rather shoot Academy frame or APS-C at f/4.0 (or f/5.6) than at f/2.0 any day. Super shallow DOF and Actors (and marks) don't mix. That said, I wouldn't worry about the 5D. It's bigger sensor would only buy you even more headache trying to get those actors to hit their marks.
Of course, you can pump more light in to deepen your DOF - but that's kind of like putting on a few extra socks so a bigger should would fit better, rather than just buying a shoe that fits properly to begin with.
