What type of issues are you having?

"Programs crash and system hangs" doesn't really tell me much, and hovering over a few editors I have seen some interesting things happen with every system. The "guy from Avid" told me that his unsolicited opinion was that anyone who tried to edit HD or higher on a laptop created the issues, that none of the laptops were really made to do that-- but of course, he was pushing a Nitrus, too.

You want to spec out your system and let us know when/how much you're going to hop?

I'm just the opposite - I've had more bad luck with Apple. I'm not sure about Windows 7, but I haven't had any issues with XP or even Vista and plan on upgrading to W7 soon.

That said, I'm probably going to get rid of my big editing rig sometime over the next year, which is a 3Ghz, 8-core Mac Pro, in favor of a more portable, yet equally high-end, PC laptop. Why? Because most of my computer headaches are due to editing. Neither FCP nor Premiere seem to work well on my Mac when I'm pushing the system to the limit (and I push hard - because I try to work fast). The programs crash, the system hangs, etc. I literally cringe when it comes to thinking about editing anymore...

But other than that, I wouldn't care much which computer I used for day-to-day operations. I like them both, and they both have their ups and downs.

The moral of the story is this: If they both have good hardware, a PC is just as stable as a Mac.

Of course, there's the virus argument, but I'll be honest: I don't even run anti-virus software (first thing I delete when I get a new PC). But I keep my system up to date (with Windows' auto-update set to install nightly) and that takes care of almost all of the issues. I do run the occasional scan, but it's not something I worry about.
