And, on almost all competitive cameras, too.
It is probably best to obtain a camera which is Full Aperture, and
then let the target A/R be accommodated in post-production.
N.B. -- Fox Studio Cameras were Full Aperture from the git-go, in
about 1939, as this allowed for shooting process plates Silent/
1.33:1, or Academy/1.37:1, or Flat Widescreen/1.85:1, or CinemaScope/
2.66:1, or CinemaScope/2.55:1, or CinemaScope/2.35:1, all with the
same camera, and without any changes thereto.
Of course, the FSC was not a reflex camera, but the issues were the
same.
Alas, the FSCs did not last into the Super-35 era, which assumes a
Full Aperture, artificially masked to 1.85:1 or to 2.35:1 in post.
These 20 cameras were decommissioned in 1969, which pre-dated
Super-35,which was actually a simple and obvious adaptation of 1955's
SuperScope.
