I sent this out last night, but I'm still having email issues on this
account (long story, but it deals with DNS and MX entries). So, I'm
resending it this afternoon...
If you're interested in an HDSLR (VDSLR?) for "light and quick", then
there are several companies that make "fast shooter" kits. Basically,
they add a couple hand-grips and a follow focus (which apparently won't
work with most of my OCT18 lenses). I think that's all you
need. Of course, shaky cam will start to come into play...
I think it will be a lot more front heavy with a big Lomo zoom on the
front - which means we have to start worrying about those kinds of
things when buying equipment for it...
As for the rolling shutter, look at The Foundry's "RollingShutter"
plugin for After Effects and Nuke: http://tinyurl.com/ktbtc8
The movie clip (on the page) shows how they do it. And it's apparently
not a quick hack, but a really nicely done plugin (btw, it's also usable
with the RED's footage). I've read a few postings on it and people are
swearing by it.
I haven't used it yet, but if I get a client that wants me to use the
camera that way (and I know it'll happen sooner or later), I'll probably
end up needing it. Looking at the page, they allow you to either rent or
buy - renting is actually much cheaper and probably worth it in the long
run...
