In this case I have to rely on auditing over six thousand "major caliber or large caliber weapons fired within the passenger compartment" cases involving law enforcement officers over a twenty year period.? Over ten percent of them were permanently deafened with 80% or greater loss of hearing, the other ninety percent had measured, documented hearing loss.? About twenty percent were rendered unconscious or dazed enough that they were not capable of reasoned action-- and was what gave rise to the creation of the "flash bang grenade" for use in hostage situations.? At eight feet it has less concussion than a four inch .38spl muzzle blast with 158grn "standard" police loads, and one half of a .357 mag 158grn "+p" round when either are fired inside a vehicle with the windows down, and one quarter the shockwave impact of the weapons with the windows up.? Eight of the people in those reports died of concussion effects, btw, and the helmets and headgear for SWAT is is mostly for protection from muzzle blast during house raids.?

After a house raid where shots are fired "cracked walls and broken windows" from muzzle blast are common.

I get very hyper one firearms issues, and wish I still had more of my hearing, but one thing I will note-- being around an idiot with a gun might be something to avoid.

As for the "cause factor" being neglected??

Too much of "movie" cause reasons are severely stupid.? I wrote something that, on the first group reading it, I got a gripe that "it was too intelligent."? I wasn't sure how to take that, but in talking to others, later, I was told, repeatedly, that it was too believable, and that it gave readers nightmares.? That might be the reason that stupid is used so much-- realistic might not be acceptable to mass market use.

Not entirely true. I'm guessing you did not grow up in farm country with
at least one idiot friend? I will agree that your ears ring for a few
hours. Either way, I still would not EVER recommend it - and I'm still
surprised I am able to hear.?
