[Dan Cordle]

This reminds me of something I've read about with certain large format lenses that were made with radioactive elements that eventually cause a yellowing of the glass. I believe the Apo Lanthars (mad with lanthanium) are among those lenses. Low radiation, to be sure, but radiation nontheless.
