They are nicer when used on outside work, but don't help much for
interiors... But...
For exteriors, use longer lenses to get back a little from the actors
(less sound to distract them) and keep the mic well in front of the
camera, and you'll be fine.
For interiors, in conjunction with using the barney, and if you're shots
allow for it, you can try building a light-weight sound proof booth out
of blue-board (or heavier/sturdier plywood), egg-crate foam, and a few
2"x3"s. Be sure to build a window so you can see out with your camera
and to make a door. Keep a piece of carpet (or carpet foam) with you to
throw underneath and it should cut the sound down enough.
Warning: I've never built a sound proof booth for use with my Konvas,
but the concept is quite simple and it should work, at least to a
certain extent. If you're good with tools though, it should only take a
few hours.
