Hi Rita.

Detailed pics of the Beckman & Whitley CM16 camera, 400 and 1200ft mags are
available in the 1970 edition of the "Professional 16/35mm Cameraman's
Handbook", Verne + Sylvia Carlson published by AMPHOTO.

Apparently CM designation = "Continuous Motion" on account of the absence of
intermittent film movement at the aperture/film gate, i.e. "...the image is
tracked onto the film by the rocking mirror."

Regards,

Nicholas K.

PS: At times the level of discussion on this list is awesome.

"It might still be on the iplayer tho I'm not sure if that works overseas
but you could always try! "

That's one way Freya but BBC programmes are only held for 7 days.
Independent TV hold theirs for 28 days.

Oh! Well, not to worry it was'nt that important.

It was great footage if you saw it, not just for nostalgic reasons but it
was superb photography even if you are not a Beatles fan. The only camera I
can come up with was the Beckman and Whitley 16mm and finding information on
that is near impossible as they did'nt make it for long. They usually made
scientific high speed cameras.

I will keep digging until something turns up. Interestingly, ABC in the US
financed this camera to be built for their own use, so information is
available, somewhere! I have e-mailed Maysles himself so hopefully will get
an answer.

Anyway, its nice to know that we can add another camera type to the Konvas
archives.

Rita
