2R film does not need side pressure to register the image about the  
"big pin" as the "little pin" (but full height and reduced width)  
does this.

1R film still uses the "big pin", but it must have a second pin on  
the same side as the "big pin", but a "little pin" (but full width  
and reduced height) to register the image, however this is not the  
usual method, rather a side pressure component of the gate does this.  
The Mitchell 16R (reflex model) and the Panavision Elaine does it  
this way, although this is not  the best approach as it requires very  
careful fitting of the side pressure component to the removable  
portion of the gate, and that side pressure component is at the top  
of the gate, which is not as well supported as the bottom which has a  
rotatable lever lock.
