"hi i have a client who have a ONE INCH video program tape (in a roll)
....
and who want a transfer to some other usefull format"
Oliver,
As you know the 1 inch open reel format has been dead for some time now
and the only people I know who own an Ampex type machine are collectors. I do
not know any TV post houses who use these machines as all 1 inch tape has
already been transferred to Beta etc.
I remember the Ampex machines well as we had them at Thames TV Teddington
film Studios where the last "Benny Hill" shows were recorded and that was
around 1975-77.
Word of warning. You will find that if the tape has been stored for many
years, you will definitely have "print through" where the oxide has picked
up the images and sound track of the upper layer and printed them onto the
next layer and so on and the quality will have been lost.
The National film and Television museum in Bradford UK had these machines
working for a while so you could contact them. Otherwise contact a collector
but it will not be a 'clean' transfer.
Rita
