A couple of quick notes on respooling or cutting down loads.
Slow is better than fast. Static is bad, and the faster you run the film the more dust you suck into it, and motors add to the issue. A measured "spool" of fishing line cut to the length of the film needed is better than a film counter. You can feel it in the dark and it can "stop" you before you make a mistake. Film needs total darkness, thus counters are problematic. Just put a flat plastic plate on each of the split reels with the line attached on each end. That makes counting easier.
Wind the film load off of the larger load, then cut it, stop, and wind it BACK onto the core for the camera. If you don't your keycodes are backwards and it will drive lab and edit crazy-- it saves DAYS of work to wind out, then wind back.

Have you thought of using a drill on slow mode. I use a pencil in the spool
hole and download 400 to 4x100ft spools in minutes. I tried doing this in
a changing bag but things got a bit 'busy' so now do it in the cupboard!
