This website (as well as the discussion list) are dedicated to sharing information and resources on motion picture equipment designed and built in Russia and the former Soviet Union (USSR), mainly (but not exclusively) the Kinor 16mm, Kinor 35mm and Konvas series 35mm motion picture cameras.

Things you will often see talked about here are the beautiful Russian Lomo lenses (and how some are even using them on their HD cameras); the MOS Konvas 1M, 2M, 7M, and 8M 35mm cinema cameras; the quieter, more studio oriented, 35mm Kinor 35C and 35H; the Rodina 35mm; the Temp SKL; the PSK, KSU, KSK, & KSM 35mm cameras; the Druzhba 35mm; the Kinor 16, and sometimes the Krasnogorsk-3 (K3) & Kiev 16mm cameras, among other Russian Cinema Gear. We do talk a lot about cinema though, and don't always necessarily stay in the realm of Russian made film equipment.

About Russian Cinema Camera Gear
Written by Konvas Cinematographer

Russian Camera gear will do the work you demand - 'nuff said. A Russian Cinema Camera, in good to excellent condition, is not going to be everything a brand new $50,000 film camera is going to be (that new camera smell, that digital thingamabob, the 1 year warranty), but it will work - the way Mother Russia intended it to. And it will do most everything a $50k camera will do, most likely just as well, if not better - and sometimes it will do more!

What is a Konvas 35mm Motion Picture Camera?
Written by admin
Friday, 21 September 2007

The Konvas 35mm Motion Picture cameras are reflex, meaning that when a person looks through the viewfinder, they see exactly the same image as the film in the gate.

35mm Konvas come in several flavors and have different model numbers. The original Konvas cameras were made in the 1950's and production lasted through the early 1990's. They were used in the Soviet's race for space, as news cameras, in feature films, in documentaries, and were even used to capture aerial footage of Chernobyl. Named after its designer, Vasily Konstantinov, the 35mm MOS Konvas can be a great addition to anyone's arsenal of rugged camera equipment.
